Dear Erik:

I got some really good news today and I wanted to share it with you. You may recall that I sent you an e-mail a couple of weeks ago that I had received a call from "Woman's World" and they wanted to use my idea for a story but have someone else write it.

Well things have now changed.  Today I received a call from the assignment editor who read my story and said they want to buy it.  They will publish it in first person and I will of course get the byline and they are paying me $500.  They are also going to have a photo editor call me to set up a time for a photographer to come to my home and take my picture.  I am thrilled.

This is so exciting for me.

Thanks for your help.

Andrea Paterson

Hi  Erik it's me again,

I've now been published three times by Michigan Cyclist Magazine and once by the national magazine Dirt Rag. You were right Erik, these magazines NEED good material.

Anyway, because my girlfriend got a new job, I am now in Kansas City MO, of all places.  I've been here only a week and based on my portfolio containing four published articles, and not much else, I'm now a columnist (and aspiring assistant editor) with a regional sports rag called Playground Magazine!  It's a monthly 70 page glossy publication with a midwest distribution of 25,000 copies.  Not too bad for a beginner...

The reason I am no longer a computer programmer, and can now honestly call myself a writer, is because I published that first time.  And the reason I was able to get published that first time is because your workshop showed me the steps necessary.  If that's not a complete and utter endorsement for your class, I don't know what else I can say.

Thanks again, I'm sure you'll be hearing from me as I explore the Participant Lounge in the very near future...

Hi Erik:

This is Todd Mercer, one of your workshop students from the April - May 1998 Huron High (Ann Arbor, Michigan class).  Just to remind you,  I was the one with the "Trail" article.  Well good news,  it was already accepted by Michigan Cyclist Magazine!  They're going to press on Tuesday (today).  Talk about fast, they also want to know what kind of stuff I've got planned for the summer.  If they are interested in any of it, they'll have me write something for them.  Cool!

There is no doubt in my mind it was because of your workshop that my article got published.  (Whoops, used a 'that' there.  I got to remember to watch that.)  Anyway, your workshop was great fun and very informative.  But, most importantly, it worked.  And worked fast!  Thanks a bunch Erik.

"The most comprehensive, practical resource available today!"

——Joann Gardner, Corporate Training Professional,
Ann Arbor, MI

Erik Bean has created the most comprehensive, practical resource available today! He provides a clear, step-by-step process for both the novice as well as published author to follow. He takes the "mystique" out of writing for publication. Erik has a straightforward, low-key style that is easy to follow and incredibly believable. The reader/viewer knows that here is an author who speaks from his own experience. In an amazingly competitive business, Erik is a real anomaly: he tells it "all" simply and practically...including how to discover your own subjects, the query letter, photography, attribution, and rejection letters - he covers it all! Every wanna'be author has to own a copy (Writing for Publication video or book) - this will be an investment with top-dollar payoffs! You will have to purchase your own copy - I don't share mine!

“I found the workshop to be a great refresher and it was truly motivating.”

—— Dave Hornstein, Managing Editor, Perry Johnson, Inc.,

“Erik Bean’s advice helped me to strengthen my writing, leading to my first published article. It was more than just a confidence building lesson. He focused on what's really important.”

—— Doug LaPlaca, an MSU graduate whose first article appeared in the January 1995 issue of Michigan Out-of-Doors.

"I've been published before, but the Magazine Article Writing Workshop helped to provide fresh tips on the best markets for my writing."

—— Bruce A. Snider, President, AuditAll®, Grand Rapids, Michigan.
